Victor’s Maxiline ECO+: Cost effective, reliable refrigeration for East Riding Leisure Beverley

Victor’s ETL listed units deliver efficiency and savings

Victor Manufacturing Ltd. is a UK-based manufacturer of catering equipment, established in 1944 and operating from a facility in Keighley, West Yorkshire. The company supplies foodservice equipment to commercial catering and food retail businesses. East Riding Leisure Beverley, located in East Yorkshire, was experiencing operational challenges due to high ambient temperatures and humidity, which affected the performance of standard refrigerated display units. To address this, the centre installed equipment from Victor’s Maxiline ECO+ range, listed on the ETL for meeting high standards of efficiency. The units were selected for their suitability in demanding environmental conditions and its potential and energy efficiency benefits.

The Challenge: Overcoming high ambient temperatures and humidity in refrigerated displays

East Riding Leisure Beverley’s kitchen and display areas suffered from high ambient temperatures and humidity, which overwhelmed the existing refrigerated displays. This resulted in a loss of valuable refrigerated display space, limiting the centre’s ability to store and display products effectively. The leisure centre needed a refrigeration solution that could manage these tough environmental conditions while minimising the need for frequent replenishment.

The Solution: Victor’s Maxiline ECO+ range – designed for tough environments

Victor’s Maxiline ECO+ units were chosen for their ability to operate in high ambient temperatures and humidity levels. The units have been tested by the manufacturer in up to climate class 7 conditions (35°C/70% humidity), making them suitable for demanding environments, such as the one at Beverly leisure centre.

In Victor’s testing, the Maxiline ECO+ maintained refrigeration performance without compromising efficiency.  The range also includes models with large display capacities relative to their footprint. For example, the MAXI120VDMTECO+ model offers up to 3.82 m² of display space, helping to reduce the need for frequent replenishment and improve day to day efficiency.

The Results: Reliable temperature control and cost effective operation

According to Victor, the Maxiline ECO+ units performed excellently at East Riding Leisure Beverley, providing consistent refrigeration despite high ambient temperatures and humidity. A temperature graph taken over a week showed stable refrigeration, with the room's maximum ambient temperature reaching 27°C and relative humidity at 72.4%.

Victor also reported that the Maxiline ECO+ units proved highly economical, with an energy consumption rate of 0.140 kWh per hour. With the prevailing electricity cost of 22.1p/kWh, the estimated running cost amounts to 3.094p per hour or 72.96p per 24-hour period. This cost effective performance highlights the value of the ECO+ range as a long term solution for the leisure centre.

A practical response to performance and energy challenges

Victor states that the installation of their Maxiline ECO+ units at East Riding Leisure Beverley successfully addressed the challenges posed by high ambient temperatures and humidity. According to Victor, the units have provided a sustainable solution by delivering reliable performance, energy efficiency, and low running costs, thereby optimising refrigerated display space and minimising energy consumption.

Sean Snowden CSci, Research and Development (R&D) at Victor, highlighted the tangible benefits of the installation:

“The installation of the Maxi ECO+ at East Riding Leisure Beverley in a high temperature, high humidity environment has demonstrated significant benefits. The robust design and efficient performance have not only maintained optimal core product temperature but proven to function and operate efficiently in a demanding environment. The successful operation of the ECO+ has undoubtedly contributed to customer satisfaction, useability, and optimum function. Additionally, the ETL listing of this product adds a layer of assurance, confirming that it meets stringent food safety standards and performance requirements, enhancing trust for end users. the overall combination of enhanced technology, functionality and reliable operation has made a positive impact on the leisure center's operational efficiency and user experience.”

From the leisure centre’s perspective, the impact has been equally positive.
Sue McIntosh, Senior Catering Manager at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, shared:
